It’s inaccurate to have an estimated delivery date for letters sent
using a test key. We shouldn’t reassure people that:
- the letter won’t be printed
- (in the case of precompiled letters) that the letter has passed
validation
If PDF files have a validation error which means that they can't be
opened by PyPDF2 we would previously show the 500 status error page. We
now catch PyPDF2.utils.PdfReadErrors so that we can display a custom
error message on the notification page instead.
Added a link to cancel letters from the letter notification pages if the
letter is still able to be cancelled. Clicking on this link will show a
confirmation box, and will then cancel the letter if the user confirms.
In the long term, we don't want to show cancelled letters. But for now,
this changes cancelled letters to display in the same way that letters
with a status of permanent-failure, since we are currently giving
letters that we want to cancel the status of permanent failure.
This commit adds content pages for the notifications pages, particularly
the letter pages, which will make things clearer now that we will soon be allowing
letters to be cancelled.
The main changes are:
* The confirmation banner for letters sent from a CSV file now states when
printing will start.
* We state the CSV file that notifications were sent from on the
notifications page
* The notification page for letters shows when printing starts (today,
tomorrow, or that date that the letter was printed)
At the moment we show precompiled letters that have failed the
validation as having been sent. This is confusing.
We should communicate it as having been cancelled (rather than failed),
with the implication being that Notify has come along and cancelled the
letter before printing it. I think this is conceptually what makes the
most sense.
From the user’s point of view any letters that show up as cancelled
probably need to be fixed and resent, so it makes sense to group them
with the same name.
At the moment we are manually cancelling letters for people when they
ask us to. Once’s we’ve done this there is no indication that it’s
happened except for the date going red on the list of letters.
This commit adds some error messaging and styling to show when a letter
is cancelled.
Letting people cancel their own letters will be a future enhancement.
If a message has been sent with a test key it’s a bit confusing to just
say ‘Delivered’ on the page, because it hasn’t gone to anyone’s phone.
So this commit adds a bit of hint text to disambiguate what ‘Delivered’
actually means in this context.
There are some teams who send jobs on a daily/weekly basis. They have
team members who only use Notify for this purpose. So they would
probably benefit from basic view, because they don’t need to see the
dashboard.
This commit:
- adds a new item (uploaded files) to the basic view navigation for
teams that have sent at least one job
- makes the job pages visible to basic view users
I think we should do this now, rather than as a later enhancement to
basic view. We only have one chance to announce the feature, so teams
who do send jobs may otherwise discount it as not useful for them and
the opportunity to have them use it is lost.
The main task that we think ‘caseworker’ users do is send one off
messages.
So this commit:
- makes sure users who don’t have the `view_activity` permission (ie
not ‘admin’ users) can still send messages
- adds navigation so that these users have a place to go from which to
start the process of sending a one off message
we were seeing isort produce different outputs locally and in docker -
this was due to it having different opinions about whether the tests
module (ie all our unit tests) is a first party (local) or third party
(pip installed) import. It's a first party import, so by defining this
in the setup.cfg isort settings, we can force it to be consistent
between environments.
Note: I don't know why it was different in the first place though
as it did not need to be called for standard letters.
Changed the tests to use the mock from get_notification_letter_preview
instead of a generic NotificationApiClient.get. This will hopefully
protect any subsequent changes or calls from not being tested in future.
rendering template. Currently it uses the template from the API to
calculate this which for a precompiled template is always 1.
Gets the PDF and then uses the utils method to get the page count.

preview document rather than go to template preview.
This will remove the logic from admin and place it in api so it is
easier to expand on later when there are precompiled PDFs

Caught the error and displayed an error PNG so it is obvious something
failed. Currently it displayed a thumbnail of a png over the top of the
loading page, and therefore it wasn't obvious of the state.
Done using isort[1], with the following command:

Adds linting to the `run_tests.sh` script to stop badly-sorted imports
getting re-introduced.
Chosen style is ‘Vertical Hanging Indent’ with trailing commas, because

The GDS Way™[1] recommends using Flake8 to lint Python projects.
This commit takes the Flake8 config from Digital Marketplace API[2] and
removes the bits we don’t need.
It changes the `max_complexity` setting to 14, which is the most complex
code we have in this repo currently (we shouldn’t be writing code _more_
complex than what we already have).
This commit also fixes the errors found by Flake8, which includes 6(!)
tests which were never getting run because they had the same names as
existing tests.

If you’re using inbound SMS then I reckon it’s useful to be able to
naviagate from one message to the context in which that message sits
(ie the conversation).
This commit adds that link.
This is maybe a stopgap until we do something more like chat, where you
can reply on the same screen where you see the conversation, but maybe
it turns out we don’t want to do that – lets see how this works.
Adds a new endpoint that works like view template/view preview of
letter, so that this page works the same way it does for emails/text
messages (ie showing the full content of the message, including
personalisation).
We’re not worrying about redaction in letters for now.
The status won’t ever change from sending for letters. For now at least.
And even when we do come up with more useful statuses I’m not convinced
it’s useful to expose them to our admin users.
A more useful piece of information to show is when we think the letter
will be delivered.
`test_utils.py` is actually a file for testing some utils, not
some utils for testing.
Test helper functions and fixtures are better placed in conftest,
and also means that we can use them in conftest.
If a template has the `redact_personalisation` flag set, then this
commit removes the personalisation from the notification before
rehydrating the template.
We’re doing this because we have a need to not show things like one time
passwords or two factor codes when we show the content of messages.
By passing through empty personalisation, and the `redact_missing` flag,
the `Template` instance will make use of the work done in:

For some reason:
- notifications sent from CSV files have the recipient as part of the
personalisation
- notifications sent via the API don’t have the recipient as part of the
personalisation
I’d only tested it locally with CSV-sent files so didn’t spot this. The
`conftest.py` fixtures we set up like the API already, but we didn’t
have an explicit test.
This commit adds a method to append the recipient to the
personalisation, so we can populate the template with it.
We’ve had a few teams talk about wanting to go back and check what their
users are sending out, including the content of any placeholders.
We already provide this functionality through the API, this commit makes
it the default in the admin app too.
We couldn’t do this before because we didn’t have the individual
notification page.
It’s better to do this by re-hydrating the template than pulling the
content from the API, because things like letters have multiple areas
of content – this is more complex than what we can get from API at the
moment.
Since we’ve removed the table of notifications from the single
notification page there’s no way of knowing the status of a
notification.
This re-adds it in a way that’s similar to how it looks on inbound
messages.
